Twenty years after the father was killed in the attack, his daughter, who was born a few months later and named after him, will become a Border Patrol fighter this week.
The late Roni Tzalach lived in Gush Katif in Kfar Yam, and worked in agriculture in Moshav Atzmona. One January 2001, Roni was attacked by three terrorists in the greenhouses of his private farm.
Roni fought his kidnappers for long minutes, until after a short drive of about 200 meters, the terrorists realized they would not be able to kidnap him, and during a fight in a nearby plot of onion they shot him dead.
Roni left parents and two siblings, a pregnant wife and a son.
About seven months after his death, his daughter was born, named after him - Liron.
According to her, Liron grew up on her father's values - love of the country, decided to enlist in the Border Police to "protect the country". "It was my turn, if not me then who will do it?
"I think it's not obvious that we're in this country, and the least I can do is contribute my share as a warrior," she shared.
Liron was born in Gush Katif.
In 2005, following the evacuation of the settlers from the bloc when she was four, she moved with her family to the Nitzan settlement, where they lived for about 10 years until they moved to Beer Ganim as a permanent settlement.
Liron did not let the murder break her.
She could have chosen to donate in another way, but saw herself, she said, as a "physical bodyguard for the country."
This week, the graduation ceremony of the Border Police training in November 2020 is expected to be especially exciting, with Liron's family members expected to attend.
As in every training session at the Border Police, the training was held here for about four months at the corps school, during which the trainees were trained to handle terrorist incidents and maintain public order, handle riots, police training to fight serious crime and more. 387 new fighters will continue The branch of the Border Guard in the various sectors.
