Turkey is changing its approach to Israel:

After some very friendly messages from Ankara to Jerusalem, Turkey today (Monday) sent a telegram to Israel and Greece demanding that they respect its exclusive economic water borders - and ask it for permission to operate in this area.

This is a very significant requirement, since the route of the "EastMed" pipeline project, which is intended to transport gas from Israel to Cyprus and from there to Greece, passes through the disputed maritime territory between Turkey and Greece.

Two main points of contention are the issue of the mainland shelf in Turkey's Middle East, which is affected by the multiplicity of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea and east of them, especially Castellorizo, and the maritime border agreement between Turkey and Libya on November 27, 2019. At the time, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan signed Agreement with the government of the agreement in Tripoli - according to which there will be a maritime border between the two countries.

This is an agreement that Greece does not recognize at all, since the maritime area between Turkey and Libya is such that Athens sees it as its own.

Israeli-Turkish confrontation live

Last Wednesday, an associate of Turkish President and father of the "Blue Homeland" doctrine, Admiral Cihat Yaycı, was interviewed by the Jewish newspaper Shalom and declared that "it is in the interest of Turkey and Israel to normalize relations between them."

As part of the partnership of interests, Admiral Yaji called on Israel to implement the proposal for a joint maritime border that was first published in "Israel Today".

The extended program was published in the "Turkiscope" monthly of the Moshe Dayan Center at Tel Aviv University.

Yeiji made the remarks after Ankara suffered another diplomatic blow in the eastern Mediterranean on Monday: Cairo and Athens reached a compromise on disagreement over gas and oil exploration areas in the eastern Mediterranean.

It came just five days after Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlot Chebushoulu said: "We can reach a maritime border agreement with Egypt," Admiral Yaiji himself suggested an outline for the agreement.

However, the diplomatic process created by the Foreign Ministry in Ankara is the complete opposite of their original purpose.

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotkis spoke by telephone with Egyptian President Abdul Fatah al-Sisi, sent his foreign minister Nikos Dandias to Cairo - where he reached an agreement with his Egyptian counterpart Sameh Shukri.
