One day after the state elections, the board of the Rhineland-Palatinate SPD decided to invite the Greens and FDP to exploratory talks.
The talks are to lead top candidate Malu Dreyer, state party leader Roger Lewentz and the deputy party chairmen Alexander Schweitzer and Doris Ahnen, as SPD spokesman Timo Haungs said on Monday evening after the meeting of the body in Mainz.
The aim is to re-elect Dreyer as prime minister of a traffic light coalition on May 18, when the new state parliament is constituted.
The SPD state executive is to be elected at a regular party conference on May 2nd.
Then the coalition agreement should also be decided if it has been negotiated by then.
The organization of the party congress depends on the course of the pandemic and the then applicable regulations.
