The artistic director of the Berlin Volksbühne, Klaus Dörr, one of the main theaters in the German capital, announced his resignation on Monday, accused by several women of harassment.
"
I deeply regret if I have offended staff members by my behavior, my words or my attitude,
" said the director, in post since 2018, in a statement released by the cultural institution.
Ten women complained about Klaus Dörr to the theater, which opened an investigation.
The sixty-year-old would have made sexist and misogynistic remarks and made aggressive advances, according to an investigation by the German daily Taz.
The newspaper relates in particular "
obscene jokes, sexist slogans, dress requirements, looks pressed on the chest, threatening gestures and verbal intimidation
".
Her departure had since been requested in a petition from the theater demanding that the Berlin municipality "
take seriously the complaints and testimonies of the women concerned
".
He will be replaced this summer by the German playwright and director René Pollesch.
