Clinics in Nuremberg and the region are concerned: The British corona mutation B.1.1.7 is spreading faster and faster.
Nuremberg
- The seven-day incidence value * in Nuremberg continues to rise.
The new lockdown regulations have been in effect in Nuremberg since Tuesday (March 16).
On Monday, the Robert Koch Institute * (RKI) reported a value of 116.1.
Today (March 16) it is now 127.5.
This is mainly due to the rapid spread of the British mutation variant of the corona virus, as reported by
Bayerischer Rundfunk (BR)
.
In Nuremberg *, 35 percent of people in quarantine have been infected with a corona mutation *, most of them with the British variant B.1.1.7.
In total, there have been 900 cases in Franconia so far, reports health officer Britta Walthelm to
BR
.
She expects the numbers to rise steadily.
"The number of cases will increase, we are completely in the Bavarian and national trend," she says to the
BR
.
The spread of the B.1.1.7 mutation has nothing to do with the fact that more tests are carried out, because there are also more people with clear symptoms.
Nuremberg: Corona mutation is spreading - also in the Nuremberg Clinic
For several weeks now, the Nuremberg Clinic has been testing every patient with a positive corona test for the virus variants.
A clear trend can also be seen here.
Of the around 83 patients currently being treated, the mutation from Great Britain has been detected in around 30 percent.
There has been a steady increase in the past few weeks, said Jörg Steinmann, chief physician of the Institute for Clinical Hygiene, to the
BR.
It is very important to continue to adhere to the hygiene and distance rules.
Jörg Steinmann appeals: "Unprotected contacts must be reduced to a minimum".
According to reports, people who have contracted the British mutation B.1.1.7 often have a very serious course of the disease.
Germany's intensive care doctors are particularly concerned about the rapid spread of the British variant, the
BR
report
continues.
The doctors of the German Interdisciplinary Association for Intensive Care and Emergency Medicine therefore demand an immediate return to lockdown.
Nuremberg region: Numbers of the corona mutation are also increasing in Fürth and Erlangen
At the Klinikum in Fürth *, a significant increase in corona patients is also expected, explains press spokeswoman Carmen Brückner.
The increasing numbers in the city and district of Fürth would soon reach the clinic.
"We always feel it with a delay of about two weeks," she tells the
BR.
Of the current 17 corona patients, 13 are infected with the British variant of the corona virus.
In the city of Fürth, the proportion has been increasing for days.
According to the Fürth district office, 103 people are currently infected with B.1.1.7, which is 36 percent of all new infections in Fürth, according to the
BR
report.
For Erlangen, new lockdown regulations will apply from Wednesday (March 17), as the city had exceeded the limit value 50 for three consecutive days.
At the Erlangen Clinic, around half of the 27 corona patients were infected with the British mutation.
The virologist Armin Enßer expects that the mutation will prevail and that all Covid-19 patients will soon be infected with the British virus.
The mutant is simply more contagious, Eßner told the
BR.
