No live music, no festivals: Oktoberfest bands like the Münchner Zwietracht are practically banned from working.

The cult band with Heinzi Fuhrmann continues to rock anyway.

Icking / Munich - What does an Oktoberfest band do without an Oktoberfest?

Karl-Heinz "Heinzi" Fuhrmann, trumpeter of the Münchner Zwietracht, confirmed in an interview with our newspaper that he and his "boys" thought of a lot more than just moping in the Corona year.

"We actually had our last appearance together over a year ago," the Wahl-Ickinger regretted.

But a lot has happened too.

Instead of in the marquee, the band appears on television

The surprising forced break gave the band time for a complete makeover.

“After all, we have three new band members, are working on a new album and have just released a new single,” says Fuhrmann, beaming with the usual optimism.

There was also one or two television appearances, and by the way, the album “Münchner Zwietracht Trio unplugged” was created, which can be downloaded.

In order to make ends meet, the musicians need second jobs

Nevertheless, 2020 has been a challenge for the musicians.

All of them have second and third jobs “to make ends meet”.

Fuhrmann taught, among other things, students at the Ickingen Music Institute.

"Fortunately, lessons can take place again."

We are probably the very last ones allowed to work again. "

However, the end of the pandemic is not yet in sight.

"We are probably the very last ones allowed to work again," suspects the 61-year-old.

"Partying in the beer tent, where you can sway close to each other, that still seems a long way off to me."

The band reports from the forced break with a good mood hit

After all, the new single "Fiesta caliente in the English Garden" offers a foretaste of carefree and hot summer nights.

According to Fuhrmann, there is "simply the longing that we can hopefully celebrate again soon" in the snappy good-mood hit in the typical discord style.

Whereby the samba-reggae mix comes across a bit brisk than the usual mix of discord between Bavarian texts and Latin American rhythms, which has shaped a long success story.

“Our bandleader Wolfi Köbele was in Brazil for the first time almost 30 years ago and has become infected with the Forró rhythm,” says Fuhrmann with a smile and continues: “We were in another band at the time, and he said his Return: 'This rhythm with Bavarian lyrics - that will be a great mix for sure.' ”No sooner said than done - better said sung.

Fuhrmann was immediately impressed by the sound.

The band with the sonorous name “Münchner Zwietracht” was launched: “We wanted to make it clear that two lively cultures and thus, so to speak,“ two traditional costumes ”meet.” A cult number.

Meanwhile, the Munich discord is at least the most successful and best-known Oktoberfest band in the world.
