The Oberdingen secondary school is getting new rooms.

Five classrooms have already been completed, and another seven will follow.

A new biology hall is also being built.

Oberding - Cleaned floors, painted walls, digital boards and desks that are not smeared: the Oberding secondary school has five new classrooms.

They were created in the former rooms of the middle school, which has moved into a new building next door (we reported).

"The lessons in the new rooms have already started", explained school principal Martin Heilmaier at the presentation on Monday.

"But I kept a room free for the appointment."

With the five newly furnished rooms, the construction work in the secondary school is far from over.

Another seven classrooms will be added in the basement by mid-April.

This is where the lunchtime care and after-school care center were originally housed, and later the open all-day school.

"We are very happy to get twelve new rooms in one fell swoop," said Heilmaier.

And the classrooms are also generously planned - a great advantage in Corona times.

In this way, minimum distances can be adhered to without any problems.

In addition, a new biology hall and a new teachers' room are to be built in the summer.

The municipality budget has allocated 524,000 euros for the construction work.

The Oberdingen secondary school went into operation in September 2010.

The construction work after around ten years is by no means a luxury, explained Mayor Bernhard Mücke: “This is due to the time, which changes very quickly.

The secondary school was planned to be one and a half times, now we are already three times in almost all grades.

We had to reschedule the school grounds alone in the local council four times before it became today's school campus. "

Soon history: From April the classes in the containers on the left will move into the rooms in the aisle on the right.

The container construction can then be dismantled.

The community chief is happy about the generous amount of space, as is the headmaster Heilmaier: “It's comfortable when you don't have to discuss the space with other schools.

We can also offer school psychologists, counseling teachers or the SMV their own rooms.

The school is getting better and better in terms of room capacity. "

When the seven classrooms are ready in April, the containers in the schoolyard will no longer be of any use.

Then you could slowly dismantle it, said the headmaster.

“It's still a bit mixed up, but when we're done, the 5th and 6th grades will be accommodated in the basement.

The already finished rooms on the upper floor are intended for grades 9 and 10, ”he continued.

The secondary school currently has 16 classes with a total of 409 students.

Thanks to the good technical equipment, hybrid lessons are also possible in the rooms.

The class is divided.

Some follow the lessons from home on their laptops, others sit in the classroom.

What is still missing is the fiber optic connection.

That was already planned, said Mücke.

However, the bureaucratic hurdles for a grant would take time.

“The school buildings (secondary school and elementary and middle school, editor's note) are already connected to each other with fiber optics.

The only thing missing is the connection to the network. "

On the sidelines of the press conference, the headmaster also stated that 40 PCR tests are currently being carried out at the school every week.

The Free State bears the costs for this.

Heilmaier added that nothing had yet arrived from the rapid tests that were announced for yesterday.

Mücke said about the rapid tests in the town hall: “We now have spit tests.” That could also be a good test strategy for schools in the future, “because anyone can spit”.

In addition to the already established construction measures, Heilmaier is already thinking about what else could be improved: “A large auditorium is conceivable.

Right next to it is the old single gym. ”Perhaps the auditorium could be enlarged in this direction.

But that is still a long way off and just a consideration.

As we know the municipality of Oberding, it could soon become a reality.
