Towards a new confinement? Macron will receive a delegation from the Scientific Council at 5 p.m.

2021-03-16T13:26:09.022Z

The fate of Ile-de-France, where the Covid-19 epidemic has been on the rise in recent days, should be at the center of discussions.

"New decisions" will be taken, "no doubt", "in the days to come", warned Emmanuel Macron on Monday.

Sign that the hour is serious, while the threat of a reconfinement hangs over the Ile-de-France, the President of the Republic has planned to consult the Scientific Council before deciding on this new stage in the fight against Covid-19.

This Tuesday, at 5 p.m., he will therefore receive a delegation from this body created a year ago to take stock of the health situation.

The Head of State will then meet at 6 p.m. by videoconference with resuscitators, specifies the Elysee, to consult them on resuscitation capacities and the rise in the services, on the verge of saturation in several regions.

Then, Wednesday, he will chair a Health Defense Council.

A territory-by-territory approach

The Head of State and the Scientific Council share a territorial approach to the health crisis.

While Emmanuel Macron spoke in favor of “adapted and proportionate” restrictions depending on the territories, the Council advocates an “anticipated, regional, adjusted and targeted strategy”, according to the conclusions of their opinion dated March 11 that we unveiled you this weekend.

The idea is simple: rather than a national approach, it is therefore a question of taking braking measures by region, depending on epidemiological findings and the saturation of the hospital system.

During this third meeting since the start of the year, it should obviously be a question of areas where the new coronavirus is gaining ground.

Starting with Ile-de-France, where the indicators have turned red sharply in recent days.

Two symbolic thresholds were even crossed Monday evening: an incidence rate of 400 and the peak of patients in intensive care during the second wave.

Ile-de-France "is clearly on borrowed time," acknowledged on France 2 the president of the region, Valérie Pécresse.

This Tuesday, Emmanuel Macron and scientists could also discuss the fate of the AstraZeneca vaccine, suspended Monday on French soil.

But the future of the Anglo-Swedish serum will be decided later.

The weekly meeting of the President of the Republic could also be postponed to Thursday, while France awaits the opinion of the European Medicines Authority.
