Brazil is one of the most dangerous corona hotspots in the world.
At the height of the pandemic so far, President Jair Bolsonaro has announced a new health minister - it is already the fourth health minister in the pandemic.
Bolsonaro wrote on Twitter on Monday that he invited the current President of the Brazilian Society of Cardiology (SBC), Marcelo Queiroga, to take over the Ministry of Health.
The cardiologist is to replace General Eduardo Pazuello.
Before that, Luiz Henrique Mandetta and Nelson Teich had been in office since the beginning of the pandemic.
Brazil, which only started vaccinating in January, is one of the countries hardest hit by the pandemic.
11,519,609 people have been proven to be infected with the coronavirus, 279,286 patients have died in connection with Covid-19.
Brazil has 210 million inhabitants and is 24 times the size of Germany.
Last week, the country recorded more than 2,000 corona deaths in one day for the first time.
The health system has collapsed in many places.
The messages from cities in which the utilization of the intensive care beds has reached 100 percent or hundreds of patients are waiting for an intensive care bed are increasing.
President Bolsonaro has been criticized for his handling of the pandemic.
He played down the corona virus from the start.
Meanwhile he also doubts the sense of vaccination.
After the popular left ex-president Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva returned to the political stage, the right-wing populist softened his tone.
The current Minister of Health, Pazuello, announced on Monday that it would buy 100 million doses of the corona vaccine from Biontech / Pfizer, and the acceleration of vaccinations is likely to be one of Queiroga's main tasks.
Lula, 75, got vaccinated on Saturday.
Bolsonaro has not yet confirmed whether he will also be vaccinated.
