"This is how we are fair game": Corona anger of the school principal on politics is growing

The school principals in the Freising district issue a bad interim report for the corona policy. The concepts? Inadequate.

The school principals in the Freising district issue a bad interim report for the corona policy.

The concepts?

Inadequate.

Freising

- Get out of isolation and jogging pants: Since March 15th, Freising children from secondary schools have been able to return to their class.

However, due to the infection situation and the safety distances that have to be observed, this largely still means changing instruction.

On a daily or weekly basis, half of the students alternate between face-to-face and distance teaching.

If the seven-day incidence for the Freising district falls below 50, elementary schools should even switch to normal classroom teaching.

The FT asked the schools how things were going.

FOS / BOS: Concepts "poorly thought out"

Headmistress Roswitha Stichlmeyr has already called the district office, where the self-tests are now.

However, there is a lot that she no longer understands: For example, why only primary school teachers were vaccinated.

"Normally we would have to stay at home, we are fair game!" Her duty of care is violated here.

A lot of things would sound great, but then they weren't very well thought out.

How things will then go with the tests for schoolchildren cannot yet be judged: the test is voluntary and not compulsory.

But she also knows that many students are afraid of being infected.

Otherwise everything is as usual - although a few classes have been added, the FOS / BOS has been in "full operation" for a long time.

What it clearly lacks: the foresight on a political level.

Primary school St. Lantpert: Protection "in need of improvement"

The children suffer a lot from the isolation, confirms the headmistress Juliane Dorfmüller.

However, nothing has changed since mid-February: there are alternating lessons - at least until the incidence value in Freising falls below 50.

When it comes to school openings, it is split: Although it is very important for the child’s well-being, the number of infections should always be kept in mind.

Even the little ones can, if available, carry out self-tests under the supervision of the teachers and with the consent of their parents.

In Dorfmüller's opinion, the protection of teachers could be improved.

For example, she would like a larger number of FFP2 masks.

“It will be critical in face-to-face teaching.” For her, it is positive that numerous teachers have already been vaccinated - and that without major failures.

Business school: "Who should carry out the tests?"

The self-tests are a good idea, says headmaster Gerd Preuss, but not necessarily for schoolchildren.

Much is unexplained and dangerous here: a negative test could be a license, a positive test, on the other hand, stigmatization.

Also, many parents would be skeptical of these tests.

And what is also not yet clear: Who should carry out or monitor the tests?

“We are not medically trained.” His classes are currently changing on a daily basis, and there is live switching from home to the classroom - relatively time-consuming for the teachers.

But one thing has been shown: the children are happy to be in school again.

Nevertheless, Preuss currently does not want to be in the shoes of a politician, but rather hopes for normality soon.

Middle school Lerchenfeld: vaccinations "slept off"

Half of the students are there, explains headmaster Thomas Nistler, the others are given work materials to take home.

“It's good that the children are here again,” he says.

Many have become downright lethargic and have to get back to school first.

But there are completely different problems that Nistler has to deal with: For example, he deliberately brought a child into emergency care because the domestic situation was not the best: "I'm already worried."

It is not an isolated case, as Nistler says: The Lerchenfeld Middle School is a focal point.

Above all, the school principal is afraid that children will be left behind or lost as a result of the pandemic.

And he also thinks: Teachers used to be vaccinated, but that was "slept through".

State vocational school center: Companies also express criticism

At the vocational school, all the students are back.

In the case of special professions, it is even possible to train the whole class, others have to take alternating lessons.

What is different here: Many trainees only come to school one day a week and are therefore the perfect candidates for a self-test.

Headmaster Daniel Spreng makes the calculation: Alone for teachers and school staff around 300 tests are required per week, for the students another 1400. Spreng is by no means afraid of a higher failure rate: “They are no longer small children.” His Students are all very committed to getting a good degree.

But what he notices: Many companies that work from home often want their trainees to be protected through distance learning.

Camerloher-Gymnasium: I prefer distance teaching

Actually, emphasizes the headmistress Andrea Bliese, “we would have liked to have stayed in the distance lesson.” Because it worked flawlessly.

Many teachers give face-to-face lessons "stomach grumbles" - as more and more students do.

She hopes the self-tests will provide a little more security, although she would have preferred other test methods.

The head of the music grammar school was eagerly awaiting the new hygiene plan regarding the handling of music lessons.

Here it is now necessary to keep a distance of 2.5 meters and to ventilate more often.

What Bliese would welcome: the fastest possible vaccinations for all teachers.

Because, like the primary school teachers, they inevitably have contact with students.

However, she is not afraid of bad Abitur grades: In her opinion, there will be fewer problems here than in 2020.

An extraordinary campaign is planned for March 19th.
