At least eight people were killed last night (Wednesday) and two others were injured in a shooting incident at two massage parlors in Atlanta and one in a suburb of the state of Georgia in the United States.

Police have opened an investigation into the circumstances of the incident and after hours of manhunt for a suspect in the act, 21-year-old Robert Aaron Long from Woodstock was arrested in southwest Georgia.

Atlanta Police Chief Rodney Bryant said "three people were killed at a massage parlor in northeast Atlanta, and a fourth was killed at another massage parlor across the street."

He said the four victims were apparently Asian women, but it was not yet known if they worked at the place or were customers.

At 5:50 p.m., Atlanta police received a call for a robbery incident at one of the massage parlors in the city.

When police arrived at the scene, they found three women lying lifeless on the floor with gunshot wounds to their bodies.

At that time they received another call about a shooting incident at another massage parlor across the street, where they found another lifeless woman.

Earlier, five people were shot at another Asian massage parlor on the outskirts of the city about 50 miles from Atlanta.

Two of them were found dead at the scene while the other three were rushed to the hospital where they were pronounced dead, a spokesman for the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office in Georgia, Capt. Jay Baker, said.

"Authorities did not immediately provide information on the sex or origin of the victims," he said.

The suspect in the act was documented by a video taken from the security cameras of one of the massage parlors in the city at 16:50.

According to Baker, Long was arrested about 240 miles south of Atlanta.

Police believe Long is suspected in three shootings at institutes.

Following the shooting, Atlanta police announced that they would operate a patrol in the area.

The fatal shooting incident is in addition to previous incidents carried out against the backdrop of a recent wave of attacks in the United States against American citizens of Asian descent, and in parallel with the spread of the corona virus across the country.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp commented on the tragic incident and wrote on Twitter that "our whole family is praying for the victims of these horrific acts of violence."
