Ebermannstadt - In Upper Franconia, a small plane crashed on Tuesday evening - on the grounds of a kindergarten.
The 64-year-old pilot died in the completely destroyed wreck, the police said on Tuesday.
The single-engine small plane crashed in the afternoon outside the Kindergarten at Burg Feuerstein in Ebermannstadt (Forchheim district).
Why was initially unclear - the criminal police and public prosecutor's office in Bamberg are investigating.

A first emergency call was received around 5.45 p.m., it said.
A total of 120 rescue workers were on duty.
For the pilot of the machine, however, any help came too late.
The plane had come to rest on the roof.
Fortunately, there were no children on the premises.
The accident recording and recovery of the wreck continued in the evening.
A police helicopter supported from the air, it was said.
At the behest of a public prosecutor, an expert from the Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation is also to be called in.
Further details were initially not known.
