The first roadmap for the popularization of electric vehicles will be published today (17th). The expected measures include the suspension of new registration of petrol-fueled private cars by 2035.

Although there is still a long time before electric vehicles are fully popularized, the problem of insufficient supporting facilities such as charging of electric vehicles has been criticized.

"Hong Kong 01" found that there are generally insufficient charging spaces for electric vehicles in government parking lots, private housing estates, and parking lots managed by the Housing Authority and Link.

Among the more than 56,000 parking spaces managed by Link, only 86 charging spaces are provided, accounting for 0.15% of all parking spaces. Government parking lots provide only 1,119 charging spaces, which is an average of nearly 17 electric vehicles grabbing one charging space. There are no government parking spaces in Southern District and Yau Tsim Mong District.

The government has not taken the lead in substantially increasing charging stations, and private houses are also restricted in installing charging places.

Li Yaopei, president of the Hong Kong Automobile Association, said bluntly that if the Hong Kong government plans to phase out petrol-fueled private cars, it must first improve the charging facilities.

He originally intended to buy an electric car under the "one-for-one" plan, but he shelved it because the parking lot of the housing estate where he lived did not have charging parking spaces.

He urged the government to install medium-speed or fast-charging facilities in parking meters and all government parking lots.

The total number of charging parking spaces in Hong Kong is 3351 in the Central and Western District

According to the new "Budget", the total number of registered electric private cars in Hong Kong is about 18,500, accounting for 2.7% of all registered private cars. However, charging parking spaces have not been able to catch up with the growth rate of electric private cars.

According to the response from the Environmental Protection Department, there are a total of 1,119 charging bays in the government car parks in the 18 districts in Hong Kong. There are 191 charging bays in the Central and Western District, which is considered to be the largest. The least are in the Southern District and Yau Tsim Mong District, where there is no government. Charging parking spaces.

If you include the parking lots of institutions other than the government, there are a total of 3,351 charging parking spaces in Hong Kong. On average, nearly 6 electric vehicles are needed to grab a charging space.

At present, the electric vehicle charging service in government parking lots is free. However, the Environmental Protection Department stated that as the utilization rate of electric vehicles continues to increase, it is necessary to promote the marketization of electric vehicle charging services and avoid the abuse of electric vehicle chargers.

To this end, the authorities have begun to study the charging arrangements and announce them in due course.

Government car parks have insufficient charging spaces, and the situation of Link and the Housing Authority, which manages multiple car parks, is similar.

According to the information on Link's website, out of the more than 56,000 parking spaces it manages, only 86 charging parking spaces are provided, with a ratio of 0.15%, distributed in its 14 parking lots.

As for the Housing Authority, as of the end of December last year, the Housing Authority had provided about 1,180 private car parking spaces in about 50 car parks, providing electric vehicle charging spaces, which accounted for only 3.7% of all parking spaces.

Many people who buy electric vehicles hope that they can be charged in their housing estates. However, the installation of charging places in private homes is also limited.

The government launched the "Easily Charging Subsidy Scheme for EV Housing Estates" of 2 billion yuan to subsidize existing private residential building parking lots and install electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The authorities replied that the response to the plan has been more enthusiastic than expected. So far, 200 applications have been received, involving more than 55,000 parking spaces, which is close to the planned maximum of 60,000 parking spaces.

President of the Automobile Association: Residential housing estates cannot be exchanged for electric vehicles without charging spaces

Li Yaopei, president of the Hong Kong Automobile Association, said bluntly that the funding scheme "may not fall to the ground."

He said that the current car has been used for nearly 18 years, so he hopes to replace the new electric car through the "one-for-one" plan.

However, the monthly rental parking spaces in the parking lots of his housing estates do not have charging facilities. Only other parking lots adjacent to shopping malls have hourly rental charging spaces with specific electric vehicle brands.

"You don't have to buy (electric cars) to recharge, and there is no reason to park in government parking lots for charging, and then take the subway to rework!" Li Yaopei therefore dismissed the idea of switching to electric cars.

I was asked whether his housing estate would apply for a government subsidy scheme?

Li pointed out that because the parking lot is managed by the management company, residents can only rent monthly; even if the residents want to install charging stations, they are "not a problem," or they will not be added until most of the residents have replaced their electric vehicles. Install the charging position.

Li believes that if the government wants to promote electric vehicles, it must first make good charging equipment, and bluntly said that "the preparatory work of electric vehicles all over the world is done by the government."

He suggested that the government can install medium-speed or fast-charging facilities at roadside parking meters and all government parking lots.

The Environmental Protection Department replied that the government is currently carrying out the installation of nine medium-speed chargers in the Mui Wo open-air public car park on Lantau Island, which is expected to be opened for public use in the second quarter of this year.

In addition, the government is preparing to install 9 medium-speed chargers for the Tai O open-air public parking lot, which are expected to be put into service before the end of this year.
