Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Groshko held NATO responsible for dismantling the security system in Europe after it carried out two waves of expansion and brought its military facilities closer to Russia's borders.
Russia Today quoted Groshko as saying in a comment on the statement of NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg about what he described as the Russian threat that, through its expansion, NATO has changed the situation in Europe significantly and we have witnessed an increase in the spread of NATO's infrastructure near Russia’s vital centers, saying that “ The deployment of NATO forces with their weapons, the rotation of the presence of military units and the increase in military training near the Russian borders led to the destabilization of the security situation that resulted in the post-Cold War period.
Grouchko pointed out that these actions required Russia to respond to them and to adapt the policy and military planning to achieve this, because issues of strengthening security and national interests are always put in the foreground.
