The survey found that due to the use of non-recyclable masks and gloves during the epidemic, and the increase in waste from takeaways, 70% of the respondents said they are now taking it more seriously Environmental protection issues, and willing to take action to reduce the use of plastic.
However, only 30% of the respondents properly recycled packaging and containers of beauty products, and nearly half (47%) of the respondents would throw away empty bottles or containers directly, or leave them in a corner of their homes.
If it is known that the packaging or container of the product can be recycled, 61% of the respondents indicated that it is more likely to recycle the used product packaging.
Respondents aged 41 to 50 have relatively higher intentions to recycle, while respondents aged 18 to 30 have the lowest intention to recycle (52%).
Inconvenient locations of recycling facilities are the main reason for hindering recycling
In addition, only 35% of respondents noticed the recycling programs of beauty brands in the market, while only 23% participated in these programs.

The survey was conducted by Yougov, an independent research organization commissioned by L'Oréal in Hong Kong, in the form of an online questionnaire in February 2021. The respondents included 1,000 local men and women aged between 18 and 50 who consumed beauty products.
Yu Baozhen, President and Managing Director of L'Oréal Hong Kong, said that environmental issues are imminent, and consumers' awareness of environmental protection is increasing, which is something the company would like to see.
As a leader in the beauty industry, the company hopes to work with local communities to promote sustainable development and to work with consumers to protect the environment. Therefore, the group launched the "L'Oréal for the Future" global sustainable development commitment.
