With the presence of more than six thousand diabetic patients registered with the National Diabetes Program in Sweden, strengthening prevention methods has become a necessity to reduce the increase in infections, especially that any person in the community can apply them, especially the most vulnerable of them to infection as a result of the existence of a family story.

Prevention of diabetes, according to the specialist in internal diseases, glands, diabetes and infertility, Doctor Ahmed Hussein Al-Khatib, requires a healthy diet based on vegetables and whole grains, a moderate amount of protein and fat, and avoiding ready meals and sugary and fizzy drinks because they contain large amounts of white sugar and calories.

Al-Khatib advised during his speech to the SANA reporter to avoid obesity and lose weight as much as possible for the ideal weight and to exercise for at least half an hour from 4 to 6 times a week and to monitor sugar periodically in addition to treating any accompanying diseases such as high blood pressure or increased cholesterol or triglycerides as well as avoiding Smoking and following-up on prescribed medications for a diabetic.

According to Al-Khatib, the incidence of diabetes increased during the past five decades, and the number of people in the world exceeded more than 365 million, as a result of the change that occurred in terms of lack of movement and physical activity, excessive use of modern amenities, obesity, and an increase in dependence on fast food, with an increase in the incidence of the disease. Children and youth.

The advice provided for the prevention of diabetes is important to avoid the increase in the number of patients, which reduces the burdens and costs for patients and the concerned health authorities in Syria, including the As-Suwayda governorate, in which the number of registered persons in the National Diabetes Program in the As-Suwayda Health Directorate has reached about 6,713 patients, of whom 2,715 are provided with insulin and 3567 patients They are provided with oral depressants and 431 patients receiving insulin and anti-depressants together, as indicated by the head of the program, Doctor Mazen Abu Ammar.

The diabetes program in Sweida, as Abu Ammar mentioned, covers about 90 percent of patients' needs from oral depressants and nearly 100 percent for insulin, with occasional interruptions beyond the control of those involved in the health sector as a result of the war conditions and the unjust economic blockade imposed on our country.

It is noteworthy that diabetes is one of the chronic diseases known since ancient times. It is caused by a deficiency in the secretion of the hormone insulin or by the resistance of body cells to it.
