The driving schools are currently very busy.

Due to the lockdown, numerous hours and exams were canceled.

But young people want to finally get into their own vehicle.

The rush is great.

Likewise, the interest in a new offer.

District

- From April 1st there is the possibility to get a combination driver's license.

The test is taken with an automatic car, but whoever passes it is also allowed to drive a manual gearbox - as in the normal class "B" training.

The David driving school, which is located in Weilheim and Penzberg, has issued a press release on this.

In an interview, driving instructor Sabine David talks about the special features of the driving license - and why it can be a relief for students and driving schools.

Ms. David, what is the new driver's license?

With this, a combined training is now possible, in which ten hours are required in a vehicle with manual transmission.

Then there is a 15-minute test drive with your own driving instructor.

The rest of the lessons and the driver's license test can then be taken with an automatic vehicle.

Wasn't that possible before?

The learner drivers were also able to study on an automatic vehicle, but were then not allowed to use a car with a manual transmission after the test.

To do this, they would have had to take another driving test.

It is now no longer available.

And the ten hours and the test drive with a driving instructor are also possible afterwards.

But with the normal class B driving license you can drive any car?

Yes, but the test must take place in a car with a manual transmission.

What do you think of the new regulation?

I think they're really great.

It is a relief for the learner drivers.

You learn to drive with a manual transmission.

Especially in the first driving lessons and during the practical test, it is easier with automatic.

When you're excited, it's not that easy to keep the clutch foot under control for so long.

Especially since the exam time was increased from 45 to 55 minutes at the beginning of January.

Do you think it makes sense that the majority of the hours then take place in an automatic car?

Yes.

The manual transmission is gradually dying out due to the conversion of the vehicles.

There is no such thing with hybrid and electric cars.

And more and more manufacturers are doing without a manual gearbox in their new models.

How great has the demand for a purely automatic driver's license been so far?

In the past two years, more and more students have completed a purely automatic training course.

And now everyone wants to do the new combined training.

How does the new regulation affect your driving school?

We hope that the students need fewer hours and get their driver's license faster and cheaper.

That would also be helpful because the lockdown created a large traffic jam.

We also had to buy new vehicles so that each of the four driving instructors had two cars, one with a manual and one with an automatic gearbox.

Otherwise we would have to constantly check whether the right vehicle is currently available.

More from Weilheim:

Coincidence or not?

Within a few days, a second Feldstadel burned down in Weilheim.

Again on a Sunday, again early in the morning.

The news spread like wildfire and customers were shaken.

The management announced the end of the “K&L” brand.

The reason is also the corona pandemic.

The men of TSV Weilheim do not want to say goodbye to the season: If the season continues with promotion tournaments, the team from the district town will be there.
