Russian Defense Minister Sergey Shoigu stressed that there is an urgent need for negotiations between Russia and the United States on many common issues.
In an interview with Kazakhstan's Tengri News Agency published today, Shoigu said that the first steps of the new US administration with the arrival of President Joe Biden raise hope, indicating that the Americans have now moved from presenting demands and proposals that are not achievable to a natural and constructive dialogue, as is the case with regard to the Treaty of (START 3).
The Russian minister pointed out that "the treaty on medium and short-range missiles was completely acceptable, and we believe that specific arguments for withdrawing from this agreement have been invented by the Americans ... while Russia has declared a commitment not to deploy such weapons if they are not deployed in Europe."
Shoigu pointed out that Washington and Moscow maintain close contacts in Syria at the operational and tactical levels in managing the airspace and implementing measures in the air to combat terrorism.
On the other hand, the Russian Minister of Defense emphasized that the movement of large groups of terrorists to Afghanistan and other countries raises great concern to Moscow, explaining that the emergence of the terrorist organization "ISIS" and the movement of terrorists from one region to another is something that deserves to be discussed and addressed.
