A fighter in the Nahal Brigade was charged today (Wednesday) with the frivolous killing of Yonatan Granot last month.
After the indictment was filed in the military court, a request was submitted for the soldier's detention until the end of the legal proceedings in his case.
Granot, 22, a fighter in the Nahal Brigade's Basalt Battalion, was seriously wounded in a shooting at a base in the Jordan Valley last month. He died of his wounds three days later at Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in Jerusalem, and his family agreed to donate his organs.
Military officials in the Central Command said near the incident that "the fighter fired in complete shock. He could not explain the shooting at first. The matter of the late shooting report was also investigated and we do not rule out any scenario at this stage."
The military source referred to the question of whether an attempt was made to cover up the soldiers, following the late report on the shooting.
"This is one of the questions that is being examined now. The commander has been transferred to the MPI for questioning.
During the day, all the soldiers who were present at the scene will be questioned. "
