What is hidden behind Cartier's tarpaulin rue de la Paix, in Paris

To hide the work on his historic boutique, which will last two years, the jeweler has installed a spectacular canvas of 570 m2, decorated with a trompe-l'oeil and developed with JCDecaux.


Passers-by could not miss it, this large canvas stretched on rue de la Paix last week, to cover the work of the Cartier store.

Like a giant theater set, it reproduces the exact face of the historic facade.

At the jeweler and JCDecaux, we also speak of "urban scenography", and a show decorator has worked on the file.

To install it, four roped climbers climbed to the top of the scaffolding before unrolling these meters of ultra-resistant and micro-perforated tarpaulin camouflaging the site (which extends far onto the street) while letting the light inside for the workers.

“The“ 13 Paix ”is our emblematic address, opened in 1899 by Louis Cartier himself.

The canvas was printed with freestone walls, a zinc roof, and twenty-seven windows and seated dogs.

These frames have been fitted with hand-painted polystyrene frame moldings imitating wood and fitted with gilded aluminum guardrails and red fabric blinds.
