The young man who murdered eight people, including seven women, at spas in the Atlanta area said in an investigation that he suffered from a sex addiction, and did not prevent hatred for the Asian origin of six of them - law enforcement officials said today (Tuesday).
According to them, the shooter, 21-year-old Robert Aron Long, frequently visited the same massage parlors he attacked yesterday or other institutes.
They said he was on his way to Florida, possibly down to continue his deadly shooting spree.
The same sources stressed that although at the initial stage of the investigations it appears that Long did not act out of racial hatred, it is still too early to determine this conclusively.
The FBI has joined in an investigation into the shooting, one of the deadliest the United States has known in recent times.
"The suspect was given responsibility for the shooting," Captain Jay Baker, of the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office, told a news conference.
"He wanted to eliminate the temptation," he added, referring to the shooter's sexual problems.
Long, a white man from the county town of Woodstock, was arrested in Crisp County, about 240 miles south of Atlanta.

Hate crimes against American citizens of Asian descent have escalated in recent months amid incitement against them over the spread of the corona virus first discovered in China.
Former President Donald Trump has often called the virus the "Chinese virus," and critics have accused him of racism.
In a speech last week by President Joe Biden, he condemned the "vicious hate crimes" against American citizens of Asian descent.

The first shooting occurred around 5 p.m. at a spa in downtown Aquaret, a suburb of Atlanta.
The Cherokee County Sheriff's Office said two gunshot victims were found at the scene, and three more were taken to a hospital where two more died.
Among those killed were two Asian women, a white woman and a white man.
Less than an hour later, police were called to deal with a robbery at an institute in northeast Atlanta, where three more bodies of women with gunshot wounds were found.
While the cops were there, they were called to another massage parlor across the street, where the same body of another woman.
Police said all four victims in Atlanta were Asian women.
The shooter was recorded in a video taken from the security cameras of one of the massage parlors in the city at 4:50 p.m.
Long stopped about 240 miles south of Atlanta.
Police believe Long committed the three shootings at the institutes.
