A quota of ten Russians will be allowed to participate in the athletics events of the Tokyo Olympics under a neutral banner while their country has been suspended since November 2015 for having established an institutionalized doping system, the International Athletics Federation announced on Thursday.
World Athletics has decided to relaunch the process of granting “Authorized Neutral Athlete” (ANA) status, which allows Russians to compete outside their country under strict anti-doping rules.
This system was suspended in November 2019, the Russian Athletics Federation (Rusaf) being accused of helping high jumper Danyl Lysenko to provide false documents to justify a breach of his whereabouts obligations for doping controls.
