President Alberto Fernández this afternoon analyzed the health situation due to the coronavirus pandemic and the vaccination plan in a videoconference with the governors of the entire country and the head of the Buenos Aires government, Horacio Rodríguez Larreta, in which they agreed to reinforce controls in borders and discourage travel abroad.

According to official sources, the objective of the call was to evaluate the progress of the vaccination plan throughout the country, the epidemiological situation in each district and the measures to be taken in the event of a second wave.

Sources de la Rosada added that the governors of the provinces with border crossings asked

"to continue with the closures at the borders"

, as well as to "reinforce controls on cargo transportation", for which they will meet again with Transportation in the coming days to analyze concrete measures.

In this sense, it was reported that border personnel may be vaccinated because they are "strategic personnel."

In addition, the Minister of Health, Carla Vizzotti, made a report on the progress of the vaccination plan and announced that this Friday will be the first face-to-face meeting of Cofesa with the 24 provincial ministers.

The President was also accompanied by the Chief of Staff, Santiago Cafiero;

the Minister of the Interior, Eduardo de Pedro, and the Secretary General, Julio Vitobello.

Almost a year after the preventive and mandatory social isolation decreed on March 20 of last year, Fernández -from the residence of Olivos- thus again analyzed the health panorama with the provincial leaders, given the increase in cases in the countries of the region and

the possibility of a second wave of the virus reaching the country

.

On Wednesday, specialists warned that "there is no reason" for a second wave of coronavirus not to occur in Argentina as happened in Europe and recommended continuing with prevention measures because the health situation

"could get complicated in May and June

.

"

"There is no reason to think that the model of what began as the second wave in Europe after the end of the European summer and that today is sustained in some countries such as France and Italy does not happen in Argentina", said Tomás Orduna, member of the Committee of Experts that advises the President.

In the videoconference on Thursday, the President and the governors also analyzed the progress of the vaccination plan throughout the country.

According to the updated Public Vaccination Monitor figures,

3,843,565 doses have been distributed throughout the country

and 2,805,153 have already been applied.

A total of 2,289,249 people were inoculated with one dose while 515,904 were inoculated with both doses.
