Even without lockdown: cleanings with huge financial losses

Cleaners were also on during lockdown.

That was more of a disadvantage for the companies.

Freising

- fitness centers, restaurants and hotels fear for their existence in lockdown.

Hairdressers, cosmetic studios and flower shops have reopened, and their owners can take a deep breath.

But what about those who are open but have no customers in lockdown?

Those who do not benefit from government aid because they did not have to shut down?

Many small businesses do not know how long they can overcome the financial losses.

And that, although they were classified as "systemically relevant", would like to live normality, which is simply not possible without customers - such as dry cleaning, for example.

Cleaning: "When it comes up, two customers a day"

The married couple Vera and Georg Leinthaler have been making a living cleaning downtown Freising for around 20 years.

The airport was their biggest customer until 2020: "Before Corona, we had around 40 shirts a week from airport employees alone," says Georg Leinthaler.

The couple can only dream of that at the moment.

"At the moment, when it comes up, we have two customers a day," reports the business owner.

For him this is absolutely understandable: In the home office, after all, you prefer to sit in a cozy sweater than in a freshly ironed shirt.

There was an innovation for cleaning in lockdown: "A few people actually brought their sweatpants to us for cleaning," says Leinthaler.

But it's not just the businessmen who were forced to work from home that the Leinthalers lack as customers.

The regulations that still prohibit larger meetings - and thus also celebrations - are particularly noticeable.

The Leinthaler cleaning company had "not even a single" wedding dress hanging on the hanger in the past few months.

Only one customer base has remained for the Leinthaler couple: the medical practices.

Of course, there is no sign of the lockdown here.

All practices are open, as are medical laboratories.

Gowns and doctor's clothes are pretty much the only things that come in at the moment

Georg Leinthaler takes stock: “Gowns and doctor's clothes are pretty much the only things we wash at the moment.

Apart from white linen, there isn't much going on here at the moment. ”Most businesses, such as restaurants or furniture stores, get creative.

Essen to Go is being advertised diligently, "Click & Collect" is the new tool for the part of the retail sector that has to remain closed.

Online shopping is more popular than ever and is constantly being expanded.

The Leinthalers, on the other hand, have their hands tied: "If there are currently no customers, we can't change a lot with creativity," regrets Georg Leinthaler.

His main tool in the pandemic is patience.

Despite the loss of at least 80 percent, he and his wife Vera are in the business every day and do their best for their customers - even if there are only two jogging pants a day.
