There can be no question of the all-clear in the two houses of the district's own hospital in Weilheim-Schongau GmbH.

Instead, Managing Director Thomas Lippmann says: "The third wave is already here."

district

- It was comparatively quiet weeks in February.

The number of new infections and thus the incidence value became smaller and smaller, the calls for easing became louder and louder.

Now the shops are open again and many thought that the vaccinations that had already been carried out had already overcome the pandemic.

“A fallacy,” says the managing director of the Weilheim-Schongau GmbH hospital, Thomas Lippmann.

At the moment ten Covid-19 patients are being treated as inpatients in Schongau, four of them in the intensive care unit.

In Weilheim there are a total of four, one of them in the intensive care unit.

The situation at the Penzberg Hospital, which belongs to the Starnberg Clinic Group, has eased significantly.

According to the medical director Florian Brändle, two Covid 19 patients and one suspected case are being treated (as of Wednesday afternoon).

The second isolation ward was closed at the end of January.

“Our doctors agree that these numbers will rise noticeably in the coming weeks.

The third wave is not coming, it is already there, ”reports Lippmann.

No talk of closing Covid stations.

On the contrary: "We are trying to concentrate the corona cases as much as possible in the hospital in Schongau so that we can as far as possible maintain regular operations in Weilheim," said Lippmann.

This has no financial reasons, but is in the interests of the patient: "It is not the case that all other illnesses vanish into thin air just because we currently have a corona pandemic." Lippmann appealed to everyone who needed medical help have no fear of being treated as an inpatient.

Since virus mutations seem to prevail in the “third wave”, Lippmann expects less severe progression, but high infection rates.

Those who want to protect themselves should continue to wear FFP2 masks in public and comply with the hygiene requirements.

The only real way out of the pandemic is the nationwide corona vaccination. "The decision to suspend the vaccinations with Astrazeneca for the time being was extremely counterproductive," said the hospital boss.

Corona: Vaccination rate in hospitals is still only 50 plus X

In the meantime, all employees in his two houses who wanted to be vaccinated.

Nevertheless, the quota of vaccinated hospital staff is "50plusX".

"But we rely on education instead of instructions," Lippmann clarified.

There are lectures where employees who are still skeptical about vaccinations can find out more.

According to Brändle, three quarters of those employees who work on patients are vaccinated in Penzberg.

From a financial perspective, the Krankenhaus GmbH has come through the Corona crisis quite well so far.

"We have large, well-developed rescue packages for the hospitals in Germany." And Federal Health Minister Jens Spahn announced on Tuesday that the reimbursement of the corona-related additional expenses that the hospitals received until the end of February (we reported) will be continued.

Of the additional three million euros that the district council placed in the supplementary budget as a precaution last autumn, it is unlikely that the entire amount will be needed, according to Lippmann.
