Limitation of expenditure and reform of budgetary governance: the revenues of the Arthuis commission

The Commission does not plan to stabilize the debt before 2030. According to its calculations, without any effort to slow down the pace of expenditure, the debt would reach 133% of GDP in 2030 then 150% in 2045.


The members of the Arthuis commission, who submitted their report on post-Covid public finances to the Prime Minister this Thursday, took care to place their work under the blessing of a great left-wing figure, Pierre Mendès France.

With this epigraph, "

a country which is not capable of balancing its public finances is a country which abandons itself

", they immediately set the tone.

On the program, neither exploration of the avenues of modern American monetary theory on unlimited deficits, nor questioning of new budgetary paradigms in a period of low interest rates, but a return to the classics of economic analysis on state debt.
