Russia has returned its ambassador to the United States for urgent consultations in Moscow on the future of its relations with Washington, after President Joe Biden said he thought President Dimir Putin was a "murderer."

The Kremlin said today (Thursday) that the Democratic president's remarks are "unprecedented" and clearly show that he has no interest in building relations and that Russia will "take this into account".



Moscow's backlash came after Biden also said Putin "has no soul," promising to pay a price for Russia's interference in last year's presidential election, which the Kremlin denies.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov today described Biden's remarks as "very bad."

He told a conference call that Russia would examine its relations with Washington.
