Are we still in a democracy?
Until recently, if it was not to worry about
"populist leprosy"
, the simple fact of asking the question was considered indecent.
This was before the very serious Democracy Annual Report
The Economist
excluded France from "full
democracies
" to degrade our country to the rank of "
failing democracy
".
The health crisis and the restrictions on public freedoms that accompanied it have gone through this.
And France is far from being an exception.
With the exception of Switzerland and the countries of northern Europe, most western democracies are in the same situation.
But is the pandemic enough to explain everything?
