United States will extend travel restrictions across land borders with Canada and Mexico until April 21, the Department of Homeland Security announced Thursday.
“To prevent further spread of covid-19, and in coordination with our partners in Canada and Mexico, the United States will extend restrictions on non-essential travel at our land borders until April 21, while guaranteeing the transit of commerce. and essential travel, ”the department said in a tweet.
The extension takes more than a year since the restrictions were first implemented.

The measures, which restrict non-essential travel, were implemented under the Trump administration in March 2020 and have been extended by 30-day extensions since then.
DHS said it will work to "identify an approach and relax restrictions when conditions permit and with the protection of our citizens from COVID-19 as a priority."
