Nothing is like usual in the Corona year: The bosses at the Märchenwald amusement park don't yet know when they will be allowed to reopen.

Nevertheless, they are preparing for the new season and are introducing a vegan kiosk concept.

  • The start date for the new amusement park season is completely unclear

  • A new restaurateur is offering vegan dishes in the fairytale forest

  • The hygiene concept recently worked without any problems

Wolfratshausen - Sleeping Beauty is still asleep, and Hansel and Gretel have not been seen since November either: the fairytale forest is in hibernation.

Almost everything has already been prepared for the season opening - the theme park season traditionally begins in the Easter holidays.

So far, however, there has not been a reliable start date.

No new attractions - because income shrank in the pandemic

In the past, at least one station in the Farcheter theme park was renewed every year.

“We didn't do that this year,” says Daniel Diessl, who runs the fairy tale forest together with his wife Franziska.

Because of the Corona year 2020, in which the season was two months shorter than usual and many travel groups and school classes stayed away, the decision was made to “postpone the investment”.

Only the necessary maintenance work has been carried out, "and minor repairs".

In addition, the kiosk in the entrance area will be extensively refurbished.

Vegan and vegetarian dishes expand the offer

The Märchenwald gastronomy is under new management with two locations: Halil Güldürem has taken over the culinary supply in the amusement park.

“In the future, I would also like to offer vegan and vegetarian dishes and work with sustainable products,” announced the 30-year-old, who most recently worked as manager of a restaurant in Munich.

“We don't want to ban the currywurst and french fries from the park,” emphasizes Franziska Diessl.

“But we would like to offer something for all tastes and, in addition to the hearty park kitchen, also establish a healthy alternative.” Güldürem knows that a balanced diet for their offspring is important to many parents.

It has not yet been determined when the redeveloped kitchens in the park will start cooking again.

"We are pretty much in the air with our opening date," says Daniel Diessl.

So far there is no reliable information about when recreational facilities such as the fairy tale forest are allowed to receive visitors again.

“We hope that we will soon know more.” Within a few days, the park would be ready for the new season.

The children need as much joy and lightheartedness as in an amusement park "

Franziska Diessl

The Diessl family learned to wait for the wake-up kiss last year.

At that time, the amusement park was only allowed to open in May - and only in compliance with strict hygiene regulations.

With Plexiglas panes, disinfection breaks at the attractions and the cordoning off of an indoor labyrinth, business was able to continue despite the pandemic.

“That worked well,” says Daniel Diessl.

“People were used to keeping their distance and paying attention in their everyday lives,” adds his wife.

There was no known corona case last year.

“All of our employees stayed healthy, and we were never asked for the contact details of our visitors by the health department,” reports Daniel Diessl.

He is optimistic that it will stay that way in the upcoming season.

"With us, almost everything is in the open air." There is only one attraction, the "Huberhof" with farm animals is covered - "and there is continuous ventilation", emphasizes Franzsika Diessl.
