The Yau Tsim Police District received a complaint in February this year. The victim claimed to have been blackmailed by a valet parking person and criminally intimidated. The police launched an investigation.

During the operation, the police dispatched police officers in disguise and found that someone had privatized the parking meters in the area where there were many restaurants, and used rubber stools or ice cream cones to occupy the parking spaces, and then used intimidation or extortion methods to force the drivers to use substitutes. For passenger parking services, if the driver refuses, the other party will prevent them from using the parking meter and ask them to leave.

But even if the driver had no choice but to pay for parking on his behalf, after the other party received the money, he did not actually enter the meter for the passenger.

The parking fee is 40 to 60 yuan for two hours.

After a month of investigation, the police locked the illegal valet parking members and carried out an arrest operation on March 17. They arrested 14 local men, 1 local woman, and 6 non-Chinese women, aged between 19 and 57. Years old, suspected of extortion, criminal intimidation and theft.

During the operation, the police seized walkie-talkies, account books, and cash of 50,000 yuan. The arrested persons have been released on bail and the operation is still in progress. Further arrests cannot be ruled out.

Some of the arrested persons have triad background.

In addition, the police conducted traffic control in the area during the operation, issuing a total of 5,426 fixed penalty notices and towing 9 vehicles suspected of modification and 4 severely obstructing traffic.
