About 100 people are taking part today (Friday) in a demonstration in Qalansawa following the double assassination in the city where two young men were shot dead.

At the same time, the weekly demonstration will take place in Umm al-Fahm in protest of the wave of violence and crime in the sector and the incompetence of the police.

This is the tenth week in a row that the demonstration is taking place in the city.

In the night incident in Qalansawa, 20-year-old Lith Nasra and 22-year-old Muhammad Khatib were shot dead, apparently during a conflict between criminals.

Medical teams determined Nasra's death on the spot, and at the Beilinson Hospital in Petah Tikva, Khatib - a nephew of Kalenswa municipality director Ashraf Khatib, who survived an assassination attempt a few days ago, died of his wounds. Police said they have opened an investigation and are scanning for suspects.

The incident in Qalansawa comes against the background of a wave of violence in the Arab sector.

On Saturday, 27-year-old Muhammad Iyad Kesem was shot dead in the castle, and his death led to a general strike in the settlement.

Police are still investigating the case.

That same week, a 15-year-old boy from Jaljulia, Muhammad Adas, was killed and shot to death in the council while sitting with his 12-year-old friend who was seriously injured in the incident.

Hundreds of people demonstrated in protest of his death.

Yesterday, about 2,000 people participated in a demonstration to eradicate crime and violence in Arab society, which was held in Rabin Square in Tel Aviv.

The protest was attended by Arab and Jewish demonstrators as well as politicians and senior members of the Arab society.

According to the Aman Center, 26 people have been murdered since the beginning of the year in Arab society.

The center noted that in January 14 people were murdered, in February seven people and this month five people have already been murdered.

According to the Abraham Initiatives Association, 20 of the murdered are civilians killed in circumstances related to violence and crime, and six are non-civilian Arabs.

It was further reported that 16 of the murdered were up to the age of 30, and in 22 of the cases the murder was done using a firearm.

Also, three of the cases involved police shootings.
