Each time a confinement is announced, some of the Ile-de-France residents take to flight.
And each time, this flight to the province materializes in kilometers of traffic jams.
According to the measurements of Sytadin, which calculates the kilometers of traffic jams in Ile-de-France using its sensors, the counter displayed nearly 390 km of traffic jams on Friday afternoon, around 4:45 p.m.
Three times more than a “normal” Friday.
Almost no path escapes them: they are located on the ring road and the main roads of Ile-de-France.
Roads like the A6 and A10, heading to the south of France, are unusually congested.
Surprisingly, only the A13, in the direction of Normandy, knows a respite with green traffic, therefore fluid.
Exceptional traffic
Overall, this is unprecedented traffic, "exceptional for this hour", describes Sytadin, a few hours before the start of the third confinement in sixteen departments, including those of Ile-de-France.
Between eleven o'clock and noon, the curve of kilometers of traffic jams on Friday March 19 soared, almost horizontally, to overtake the red curve shortly before 1 pm, which already signals “exceptional” trips.

"I had not seen this for a long time": in Ile-de-France, it is the big comeback of traffic jams

As the afternoon progresses, a time slot that is usually empty, the kilometers of traffic jams have continued to increase.
This unprecedented situation evokes the monstrous traffic jams at the end of October, the day after the announcements of the second confinement.
With 734 km of traffic jams on the main roads of the region, the absolute record has come close.
Since the measures of Sytadin and the Direction des routes d'Ile-de-France (Dirif) exist, we had hardly ever seen this in recent years.
