Geretsried - Klaus Berger has seen some colleagues come and go in the first row of attacks by the Geretsried River Rats. Sometimes Stefano Rizzo was allowed to try his hand at top scorer Ondrej Horvath, sometimes Daniel Merl, and most recently the place was reserved for returnee Florian Strobl. Berger, on the other hand, has been a fixture in the Bayern league for years, can keep up with Horvath's pace and provides goals and assists himself.

  • Klaus Berger has played in the first team of ESC Geretsried since 2009.

  • The now 31-year-old winger comes from the Geretsried offspring.

  • He has now played 133 games in the Bayern and 79 in the regional league.

The people in charge are all the happier that the 31-year-old will also be putting on his skates in the Heinz Schneider ice rink next season.

"We are very pleased that Klaus is also available to us for the upcoming Ice Age", emphasized ESC Vice Peter Holdschik after the contract extension.

Despite his young age of 31, Berger is already a veteran of the club.

His loyalty, reliability and positive charisma are an absolute asset to the team.

For the second chairman, one thing is clear: "Klaus is a hard-working, ambitious and strong winger who is always fully at the service of the team."

Trained in the junior team of TuS and ESC Geretsried, Berger worked alongside today's record national player Andrea Lanzl in the youth Bundesliga (2004 to 2006).

In 2009, the business administration graduate, who works as a controller in the agricultural sector, moved up to the first team.

Since then he has played around 133 games in the Bayern and 79 in the regional league.

One of the milestones in his career was his promotion to the Bayern League in 2015. In that season he scored a whopping 40 points in 26 games in the main round, making it a key factor in the River Rats' greatest success to date.

In the last complete Bayern League season 2019/20, Berger recorded ten goals and ten assists with 35 penalty minutes in 32 point and relegation round games.

Tom Kinzel is also convinced of the quality of the winger.

"Thanks to his excellent game overview and experience, Klaus always does reliable and valuable preparatory work," emphasizes the ESC press spokesman.

In the last Bayern League season alone, which, as is well known, was canceled after eight matches due to the Corona, Berger provided one important assist per game on average. Kinzel is therefore certain "that Klaus will continue to give his team and the fans a lot of joy" .
