Now it's starting so slowly.

The new Elisabethmarkt is created.

The exact construction plans were presented.

The project also includes an underground car park, student accommodation and a daycare center.

Munich - When the new Elisabethmarkt will be ready and what it will look like then, the responsible district committee (BA) was informed at its March meeting.

Boris Schwartz, the second store manager of the Munich market halls, was the guest.

Since autumn 2020, the authority has been building the traditional Elisabethmarkt in Schwabing-West from scratch.

Where the stalls used to be, today a gigantic, meter-high fenced construction site spreads out.

New Elisabethmarkt: underground parking is also being built on the site

On the current status of the work: At the moment, the task is to secure the excavated pit.

This is done with bored pile walls and underpinning.

Since an underground car park is being built on the site that extends deeper than the groundwater level, any groundwater that occurs is pumped out and returned outside the site.

In April, work on the shell is to start with the concreting of the floor slab.

A total of five cranes will then be in use.

The foundation stone for the new store should be laid on June 23, according to Schwartz.

New Elisabethmarkt: Ten buildings are to house 22 stalls

The market sellers have meanwhile moved to the free space between Elisabethplatz and the municipal vocational school.

It will stay that way until the end of the construction work.

If everything goes as planned, the new store will be ready in the second half of 2023, promises Schwartz.

There will then be ten market buildings with 22 stalls, and two small squares will be created on the lane in between.

The tent roofs will be planted, and green roof terraces will be created on two buildings.

Parking spaces, storage and cooling rooms are to disappear in the basement.

New Elisabethmarkt: Student accommodation and a daycare center are also being built

On the southern edge of the market, between Arcisstrasse and Nordendstrasse, where the graffito used to be on the wall, Sparkasse München is building two large new buildings.

In addition to office space, there are rental apartments, student accommodation and a day-care center.

The ground floor is intended for retail and catering, which should provide a shopping alley between the building and the market.

So far, work is going according to plan.

But it is also clear: the expectations are high.

Because many Munich residents * and not least some of the sellers themselves felt rather sad when the old Elisabethmarkt closed in late summer 2020.
