The Prime Minister of Hungary, the ultra-nationalist Viktor Orbán, has assured this Friday that he is negotiating with the Italian Matteo Salvini, leader of the League, and the head of the Polish Government, Mateusz Morawiecki, the creation of a new European right after the announcement, this Thursday, that his party, Fidesz, will leave the European People's Party (EPP).

“These three countries, Italy, Poland and Hungary will try to reorganize the European right.

We will meet to discuss this issue shortly and we will plan the future together, "he said in an interview on public radio Kossuth.

The League of Salvini is part of the Identity and Democracy bloc, while the ultra-conservative Law and Justice, to which Morawiecki belongs, is part of the Group of European Conservatives and Reformists.

This Thursday, Katalin Novák, Hungarian Family Minister and Vice President of Orbán's party, announced that Fidesz will leave the EPP.

On the 3rd, the popular Europeans had already forced the Hungarian prime minister to withdraw his deputies in the European Parliament.

Orbán has used this break to criticize the EPP and advocate for forming a new group that brings together those who "do not love immigrants" or "have fallen into LGTBI dementia."

The Hungarian leader believes that the popular ones are listing to the left.

This Friday, on public radio, Orbán addressed the departure of the PPE.

"It was good, it was nice, but it was enough," he said before specifying that the first break (between Fidesz and the PPE) was related to migration, "when they did not support us", alluding to the migration crisis in 2015. “Now, with the pandemic, they (the EPP) continued to pressure us, reforming the statutes.

All of this was already outrageous and inappropriate and in this situation the best thing you can do is pick up your things, ”he stressed.

The European Commission has several proceedings open against Budapest.

This Thursday, the president of the EPP, Donald Tusk, pointed out that, although the effective exit of Fidesz only comes now, the Hungarian formation was already "in reality" outside the conservative bloc for "many years".

The last two years Fidesz was suspended in the EPP, after in the campaign for the European elections of 2019 the Orbán government accused the then president of the European Commission, Jean-Claude Juncker, of participating in an alleged plot to bring millions of refugees to Europe.

He did not have the right to vote nor could he propose candidates.

Last December, the EPP group in the European Parliament deprived Fidesz MEP Tamas Deutsch of his right to intervene in the plenary session and negotiate legislation on behalf of the group because he accused the leader of the formation, Manfred Weber, of expressing himself as the Nazi Gestapo .
