2021-03-19T22:07:29.581Z

OVH's servers had to be shut down again, rendering websites inaccessible. They could be restarted on Saturday afternoon

Black series for OVH.

The Internet host, which had already been the subject of a fire ten days ago on its site in Strasbourg (Bas-Rhin), had to shut down its servers again on Friday, the same ones which had been restarted these last days.

The cause ?

Smoke was released in SBG1, one of the four data centers on the same Strasbourg site.

According to the Latest news from Alsace, the disaster would have been declared around 7 p.m. on Friday.

Firefighters were dispatched in large numbers.

The disaster would have affected 300 batteries of 25 kg, specifies the daily.

According to Octave Klaba, the boss of OVHCloud, these batteries were not being used.

"The batteries were in an unused room (

Editor's note: of the SBG1 datacenter

), were neither used nor connected," tweeted the company manager, specifying that there had been no fire, but only one release of smoke.

Update March, 19 9:30 pm

The batteries were in unused room, not used, not connected.

We didn't have the fire, but we had lot of smoke.

The situation is under control now.

Everybody is safe.

We stop the operation in SBG for this night.

We will take the decision tomorrow.

OVHCloud announced that the SBG1 and SBG4 data centers have been shut down.

"We will restart them tomorrow (Saturday) afternoon," said Octave Klaba.

This could make Internet sites and services unavailable, without being able to know the extent of this immediately.

Météo Ciel, one of the host's clients, already impacted last week, announced on Twitter that its site was again inaccessible due to this new interruption.

After a temporary return, the Strasbourg datacenters are again cut off, not leaving us enough time to make a full backup of the main server to host it on another machine, we switched back to the temporary site for a few hours https: //t.co/sLzQ73xQKG

OVHCloud had gradually restarted its servers in data centers 1 and 4 - the latter being fully operational on Thursday - after a fire occurred on the night of March 9 to 10.

This had totally damaged SBG2 and partially destroyed SBG1.

Thousands of websites had been made inaccessible, some even losing their data permanently.
