Data from the Ministry of Health show that in 2020 the number of medical cannabis patients reached more than 80,000 people, about 0.9% of the general population in Israel.
According to Panaxia, the largest manufacturer of medical cannabis in Israel, 20% of medical cannabis patients are over the age of 70, most of the symptoms for which they receive prescriptions are related to mental difficulties such as anxiety and depression, and that men consume cannabis twice as often as women.
10.67% of cannabis patients suffer from muscle aches (FIBRO), while more than 12% experience symptoms of post-trauma (PTSD).
Also, close to 13% of patients suffer from herniated disc, 12% suffer from orthopedic problems, 3% due to epilepsy and another 3% are autistic.
It was also found that 8% are treated with cannabis due to nausea and vomiting, which are usually caused after chemotherapy treatments.
An additional 7% due to high blood pressure and 9% due to diabetes.

Most cannabis patients suffer from mental health problems.
The data show that 25% of patients suffer from loss of appetite, 18% from depression and 15% from anxiety.
It was also found that almost 18% suffer from stress, 10% suffer from mood swings, and another 10% report fatigue.
Also, 54% of cannabis users have difficulty falling asleep, and another 50% wake up at night.
The data also show that men consume more cannabis than women, with over 64% being men, compared to 35% who are women.
The data are associated with 2020, which was characterized by high morbidity due to the corona virus.
However, it is not yet clear how much recovery from the virus will lead to long-term effects, and whether they will need to use cannabis in the future.
Sheyna Trlovsky, medical director at Panaxia, explained to Walla!
Because cannabis has the ability to soothe pain and because its healing abilities are also tested.
"For patients with epilepsy, it helps calm the body and thus fights the disease. However, it helps post-trauma victims with nightmares and allows them to fall asleep - so that their quality of life increases immeasurably," she said.
"The mental system is more complex," states Trlovsky.
"Cannabis also helps with autism in children, it calms the hyperactivity and helps them concentrate. This is an option that should be on the table because everyone responds differently to medication, so it is important that it be part of the options available to doctors."
