Irish journalist Patrick Cockburn affirmed that the US and Western sanctions against Syria, including the so-called (Caesar Act) unequivocally reveal the hypocrisy of the West and make it mourn for the liars of the Syrians, as it directly targets them and constrains them in their livelihood and increases their suffering.

Cockburn said in the context of an article published in the British newspaper The Independent, “Great doses of hypocrisy are constantly accompanying the West’s alleged expressions of anxiety and fear for the interest of the Syrians, but even with these low standards, the apparent hypocrisy and aimed at achieving personal interests is clearly evident in the new US sanctions against Syria called ( Caesar Act) which is the harshest sanctions in the world and tightens the screws on millions of Syrians.

Cockburn explained that the United States claims that its coercive measures and sanctions “aim to protect civilians in Syria,” but in reality they are destroying Syria, and despite the attempts of Washington and the West to conceal the main objective of these sanctions through a false humanitarian cover, they are, in fact, a measure to impose collective punishment that pushes the Syrians into poverty.

Cockburn pointed out that the crisis resulting from the terrorist war on Syria and the economic blockade imposed on it has greatly exacerbated since Washington imposed its new coercive measures within the framework of the so-called (Caesar Act), increasing the suffering of Syrians and their children and constricting them in securing their livelihood and basic needs, including food and medicine.

Cockburn pointed to Western media misinformation about the implications of the economic blockade on Syria and its intended and clear blindness to the results of the American coercive measures, especially the sanctions under the so-called (Caesar Act) that were imposed coinciding with the arrival of the Corona pandemic to Syria, indicating that the United States and its allies are satisfied with the continuing grim current situation in Syria. .

Cockburn stressed that the continuation of the American and Western coercive measures against Syria and the continuation of the blockade imposed within the framework of the so-called (Caesar Act) means that the suffering of millions of Syrians will increase even more.

American officials acknowledge that the difficulties that Syrians suffer in their livelihood from the difficulties of securing the basic necessities of their daily lives, such as oil, gas, food and health supplies, and the queues that attract the lenses of ordinary and professional photographers, are the result of Washington's sanctions and unfair economic measures against the Syrian people, which constitute a flagrant violation of all international and humanitarian laws.

Among these officials, for example, and not exclusively, is the named former US envoy to Syria James Jeffrey, who boasted last June about the destruction of the Syrian economy, and former Washington’s ambassador to Syria, Robert Ford, who confirmed late last year that the US administration headed by Donald Trump wants US and Western sanctions against Syria. Including the so-called Caesar Act to increase the weight of economic pressures on the Syrian state and portray these pressures as a clear indication of the American success in Syria.
