The Japanese seismographic service today (Saturday) issued a tsunami warning for the Miyagi province in the north of Honshu Island, after an earthquake with a magnitude of 7.2 occurred off the coastline.
Citizens in localities near the coast were required to move to higher areas as part of a population evacuation plan in the event of a tsunami.
According to reports in Japan, the height of the predicted wave stands at just over a meter.
