Lechbruck has decided: The four-star wellness hotel on the Lechsee should not be built.

That was the result of the referendum on Sunday evening.

A month-long dispute comes to an end.

Now those responsible hope that the trenches that have emerged in the rafting village will be overcome.

Lechbruck - The result was clear;

In the referendum, 916 Lechbruckers voted against the hotel, only 682 in favor (102 invalid). In the case of the council petition, which the local council had opposed at the same time, it looks similar: 905 against the hotel, 757 in favor, 37 invalid.

1699 Lechbruckers took part in the election, more than half of those eligible to vote.

The result draws a line under a dispute in the rafting village, which had risen more and more in recent months.

As early as June 2020 it had become apparent that there would be resistance to the hotel plans.

When the local council had the property on the lake pegged in order to get an idea of the dimensions of the 300-bed house on site, the first entry on the social network “Facebook” popped up: “What kind of red pegs are these?” Asked one Citizens worried.

The referendum was ultimately initiated by the Pfanzelt and Wagner families, who live on Lechwiesenstrasse.

This would lead the way to the hotel property on the Lechsee, on which the ruins of the indoor pool and the decaying tennis hall still stand.

First of all, the families warned of a higher traffic load.

On top of that, they saw competition for the campsite, the holiday village and the local restaurants.

"Tourism is not being strengthened, but weakened," emphasized Alexander Pfanzelt at the time in an interview with the SN.

He is an architect and, due to its size, also rejects the project from an urban planning point of view.

It was not until the beginning of February that the local council opposed the citizens' request.

The mood in Lechbruck meanwhile became more and more charged.

Anonymous abuse letters, mutual accusations and insults in social networks alternated.

Town hall chief Moll called it "a conflict".

The community did not expect so much resistance.

After all, there were designs for a hotel six years ago.

An investor had dropped out at the time.

In 2019 the idea was taken up again with a new interested party.

"A voice had never stirred," said Moll.
