The Chief of Staff, Aviv Kochavi, this evening (Sunday) ordered a series of command measures against IDF officers who were involved in an incident in which a Magellan fighter, Corporal Eli Hayut, was wounded in 2018 and exposed in "Israel Today" at the time.

The measures, which were taken after presenting the findings of the MPCF investigation, included a two-year delay in the promotion of the then commander of the unit and several other officers, as well as reprimanding several other officers. Which in the view of the Petzar justified the opening of an investigation.

The opinion analyzed in detail all the circumstances related to the severe injury of a major animal corporal: the planning of the training, the sequence of events, the medical treatment and the conduct of the commanders after the incident, including the interrogation process performed and the relationship with the family.

A significant part of the investigation was devoted to examining the customs and culture of the unit and the command responsibility in this context.

The investigation shows that, as a rule, the training was prepared and carried out according to the procedures.

Along with this, the opinion includes recommendations on a number of systemic issues, including the process of removing the training, intervention points in truncating improper customs and more.

The attorney general, General Sharon Afek, met today with the Hayut family and presented the findings of the investigation and its recommendations. The attorney general noted that there was room to open an investigation earlier than the date on which the investigation was actually opened, and that lessons were learned.

The Chief of Staff, Major General Aviv Kochavi, noted that the incident of the injury of Corporal Eli Hayut was a serious and unnecessary incident, which should have been prevented and could have been prevented. The Chief of Staff reiterated the overall and full command responsibility of each unit commander Assimilate norms of professionalism, discipline and accuracy.

In doing so, it is his duty to know what is happening in his unit and to eradicate improper and dangerous phenomena, in a determined and uncompromising manner.

The incident occurred during a week of camouflage, when fighters in one of the crews decided to jump from the roof of a Hummer-type vehicle into a thorny boat bush.

One of the fighters fell badly, breaking a bone in his cervical spine.

The soldier underwent intensive care.

It later turned out that the jump to the spiny boat is a tradition on the track in the unit, and this is not the first time that fighters have made such a jump.

Subsequently, following a series of publications about the Magellan unit that began with the exposure of "Israel Today", the team commander was dismissed and a command note was also written to the company commander.

In addition, a committee was set up, headed by Brigadier General (soon to be Maj. Gen.) Itai Yarov, which will examine the special normative conduct of the special units,
