Mauritania renews diplomatic relations with Qatar

This announcement follows a meeting Sunday in Doha between the head of Mauritanian diplomacy Ismaïl Ould Cheikh Ahmed and his Qatari counterpart, Sheikh Mohammed ben Abderrahmane Al-Thani.

The two countries

Mauritania had severed its relations with Qatar in June 2017. Nouakchott had followed Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Egypt, Yemen and the Maldives which had cut all relations with Qatar, accusing their partner of Gulf to

Qatar, boycotted since then by four Arab countries including three of its Gulf neighbors, reconciled with them at a summit of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) on January 5 in Saudi Arabia.

The GCC brings together, in addition to Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, the United Arab Emirates, Oman and Kuwait.
