(CNN Spanish) -

The opposition National Assembly of Venezuela approved this Friday to allocate US $ 30,309,040 for the purchase of at least 12 million doses to vaccinate 6 million people against covid-19 through the Covax system.

The total amount includes US $ 18,199,040 for Covax and US $ 12,110,000 for investment in the cold chain.

The agreement contemplates that the management and distribution of vaccines is in charge of the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and Unicef.

The diplomatic mission of Juan Guaidó in the United States will be in charge of carrying out the management with the United States authorities, Carlos Vecchio, Guaidó's designated ambassador who is recognized as the president in charge of Venezuela by the United States, said in a statement.

Representatives of Guaidó and the questioned President Nicolas Maduro since last February 11 set up a negotiation table in order to facilitate access to vaccines by releasing the resources recovered abroad, as part of the international sanctions against Venezuelan officials and some public organizations such as the Central Bank of Venezuela and Petróleos de Venezuela.

Countries like the United States argue that they have taken these measures because they consider that these organizations have violated Human Rights and have acted to undermine democracy.

Maduro and his officials plead innocent and consider that these measures constitute a blockade and that they have prevented Venezuela from accessing resources to fight covid-19.

So far there are no known statements by Maduro or his immediate collaborators, but the Deputy Minister for Multilateral Issues, Daniela Rodríguez, again cited the United States sanctions as the reason that hinders the management against the pandemic.

CNN requested an official reaction from the Ministry of Communication and Information without having received a response so far.
