Hard day of battle in northern Syria: Russian fighter jets bombed rebel targets in Idlib province.

According to media reports identified with the rebels, the Russian bombings hit a gas-producing plant as well as the border crossing with Turkey.

The Russian air strike took place at several sites near the M-45 road north of the town of Sarmada, a few dozen kilometers from the Turkish border.

The border crossing at Av to Hawa was damaged on the Syrian side of the border.

The Russian bombing is only part of a widespread attack by the Syrian army in the northern province, apparently in preparation for another ground campaign aimed at defending the rebels' control of the last pockets it holds in the north of the country.

The Syrian army opened heavy shelling on the town of Atarib in the center of the Idlib enclave, and a hospital in the town was hit by the shelling.

Seven people, including hospital staff, were killed in the attack and another 15 were injured.

In response, the rebels opened fire with mortar shells at western neighborhoods burning milk.

Three people were killed and several others were injured in the shooting.

At the same time, Turkish army forces clashed with Kurdish militias near the northeastern town of Ein Issa.
