The Chief Military Prosecutor, Major General Sharon Afek, decided to close the Magellan fighter's injury case, Eli Hayut, and announced that no criminal action would be taken against those involved in the incident - the IDF spokesman said tonight (Sunday). In August 2018, while jumping from a Hummer vehicle into the bush, as part of what was then defined as the "tradition" of the unit, the

decision to open an MPI investigation was made last May by Afek.

An IDF spokesman said at the time that the decision was made following a series of allegations regarding the circumstances of the fighter's injury, which in the view of the IDF justified the opening of an investigation.

The opinion analyzed the circumstances related to the injury of animals, including the planning of the training, the sequence of events, the medical treatment and the conduct of the commanders after the incident, including the interrogation process performed and the connection with the family.

The investigation of the case shows that the training in which animals were injured was prepared and carried out according to the procedures.

Despite this, the opinion provided recommendations on a number of systemic issues, including the process of removing the training, a point of intervention in truncating improper practices and more.

The IDF spokesman said that the IDF met today with Hayut's family and presented them with the findings of the investigation and its recommendations.

He admitted to the family that there was room to open an investigation at an earlier time, and that lessons had been learned on the subject.
