According to the schedules, Vogelman will present the results to the president a week and a day after the election, on Wednesday, March 31, 2021. The president has seven days to hold consultations, make a decision and impose the government on one of the Knesset members, no later than April 7, 2021. The President's House also mentioned the continuation of the process according to the Basic Law: The Government, according to which the Knesset member who received the mandate is given 28 days to form a government, with an option to extend it by up to 14 days.
If the period given to the Knesset member has passed and he has not been able to form a government, or the Knesset member has informed the president that he does not have the power to form a government, or a government has been presented and the Knesset has rejected the request, the president has two options.
The first is to impose the formation of a government on another MK who has informed the president that he is ready to accept the job of forming a government and that this MK will have 28 days to form a government.
The second is to inform the Speaker of the Knesset that he does not see the possibility of forming a government.
If the President informed the Speaker of the Knesset that he did not see the possibility of forming a government, or that he imposed on the second MK the task of forming a government and he also failed to form, or the MK informed the President that he could not form a government, or a government was presented and the Knesset rejected the request A majority (61) of the Knesset members may request the President in writing to assign the position to an MK of their choice, who has agreed to this in writing, and all within 21 days.
