Now it's over: The district of Ebersberg invests a maximum of 850,000 euros per year in hydrogen technology for buses in public transport, for six years.

Together this makes around 5.1 million euros.

The district council now agreed.

The SPD and parts of the Greens voted against this.

District

- The Ebersberg district had successfully applied in 2019 together with the Landshut and Munich districts as well as other project partners as part of the federal funding program “HyLand-Hydrogen Region in Germany.

It is about replacing diesel buses in local public transport with fuel cell buses.

Five buses are planned in the program.

The district promotes the additional costs for diesel operation.

Two entrepreneurs have shown more specific interest: Ettenhuber from Glonn and Reisberger from Frauenneuharting.

As part of the project, two hydrogen filling stations are to be built in the district.

"Green hydrogen" is to be used.

Hydrogen promotion: SPD is against it, Greens are divided

Martin Lechner (CSU) promoted the project in the district council.

If nobody offers hydrogen, then nobody will invest in hydrogen, he argues.

Bianka Poschenrieder (SPD) countered that green hydrogen must be obtained with renewable energies.

There are not enough of these in the district.

In addition, there is no new bus route through the program.

The money was better used in other areas than for this “prestige project”.

There is no unanimous opinion on this project among the Greens, as Thomas von Sarnowski admitted in the district council.

One point of the supporters in the ranks of the Greens in advance: "If a rich district like Ebersberg cannot finance the pilot project, who will?"
