For the fourth time in two years, Israel will go out to vote this morning (Tuesday).

When getting to the polls becomes a more recurring and routine event than complex family gatherings, there is no point in pretending it is a celebration of democracy, but another stage in a deep political crisis that paralyzes the country and prevents it from moving forward.

As in the last three election campaigns, this time too the main number that everyone is talking about is 61 - the magic number that the right-wing government will send and give immunity to the Netanyahu regime.

But here's another number to think about until the math hours of percentages and coalition calculations in the evening begin with the publication of the sample results.

818. 818 days have passed since the 20th Knesset dissolved in late December 2018. This is the last time a stable and functioning government has served in Israel.

In these 818 days, the public has already gone to the polls three times, and each time they elected 120 MKs in whom they trusted.

Time and time again, they failed the mission and were unable to get out of the tangle;

Even in the time of the greatest health and economic emergency in our history - the government that was formed did not meet the first test - a budget transfer that will provide stability and a horizon to get out of the crisis.

After 818 days of maneuvers and exercises, empty commitments and broken promises, disqualifications, boycotts and slanders - it is hard to argue with the indifference and disgust towards politics and its metastases.

But the only way you can stop the count of days and change it - is to go through the ballot box.

And on the day 818, as it will be written in the history books, the Israelis were given another opportunity to express the will of the voter.

Even if it is not particularly festive, it is a right and a duty that must not be given up.

The most beloved quote about the despair of the political tangle is attributed to Albert Einstein, according to which insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting something different.

On the face of it, nothing changes from election to election: the series question remains the same - yes or no Bibi - and recent polls herald that the inter-bloc draw is not going to go anywhere in the evening.

Once the most powerful and popular politician, perhaps in all of Israel's history, became accused of bribery, fraud and breach of trust, the public was divided into two: those for whom it did not matter, and those for whom it became illegitimate.

Even after three elections, this division is nowhere near decisive.

But each election campaign is still different from its predecessors: in the emotions it evokes, in issues on the agenda, and most importantly - in the distribution of political power on the map.

Thus, if in all three previous elections the spotlight focused on the battle between Bibi and Benny, this time Netanyahu is not facing one big opponent, but Lapid, Saar, Bennett - three medium to small rivals for prime minister.

This time, Netanyahu is not facing one big opponent.

The number of seats they will get together matters, but not enough to win: more than ever, the game will be decided by realizing the potential for voting at the edges of the blocs.

Five small parties - Meretz, Blue and White, Labor, Religious Zionism and Ra'am - swing in the danger zone of the blocking percentage, and will be key players in any effort to form a majority, and the 61st dream of one side is the other party's nightmare. high was considered too dangerous for the smaller parties, that with the higher the threshold and the number of votes they need to pass. but the more small parties at stake, there is more shouting "Gevalt" acts to prevent the loss of mandates and increase voter turnout.

even Meretz and blue Lavan worked overtime to intimidate the center-left against apocalyptic horror predictions about the future plots of Netanyahu and Itamar Ben Gvir. Because if he does not pass by mistake - Netanyahu's bloc does not exist. A high turnout - in each of the blocs - will prevent swinging seats from being thrown in the trash and distorting the final vote distribution;

818 days of tangle will not end with the publication of the results of the samples, and even hours after the counting of the ballots it is not certain that we will know who wins.

Long days can pass waiting for the fate of the small parties, which will determine the balance of power on the map.

So, the main effort of the parties will move from the field to closed rooms, where the multitude of players will begin the act of the chariot - or its prevention.

If Netanyahu has 61 seats, Bennett will probably have no choice but to join him, but if not - his fate will depend on the political skills of the second bloc.

Naftali Bennett sandaled himself in the last line with childish statements of allegiance to the right and a sweeping refusal of any arrangement with Yair Lapid, Gideon Saar actually opened the door yesterday and said he would consider rotation with both.

All the promises, assumptions, declarations and declarations of the last days - depend in the end on the results of the truth.

If there is a high turnout - maybe there will even be big surprises.

In the closed rooms, the multitude of players will begin the act of the chariot - or its prevention.

So true, 818 days of political chaos eroded the confidence and belief that anything could change, and the inflated and conflicted government set up to navigate the corona crisis only exacerbated the situation.

And in this election campaign, too, instead of talking about education, employment, transportation and housing - most of the time they (and we) have been busy sitting around the future government table.

But the answer to this can not be indifference and disgust, but only by appearing at the ballot box: a high turnout will prove to politicians that if not they, the public cares about what is happening here, and will remind them, again, for whom they work.

It will also serve as a fortress against any attempt, on either side, to delegitimize the election results.

So go out and vote, no matter who, so that there may be surprises, and so that even if the tangle does not reach a decision - at least democracy will win.
