Following the damage to an Israeli ship that sailed in the Gulf of Oman about a month ago, the Ministry of Transportation today (Monday) issued a warning for ships sailing in the Persian Gulf and the Arabian Sea against possible damage and "terrorist incidents".
A statement from the ministry said: "The Maritime and Ports Authority (RASPN) in the Ministry of Transportation has issued a recommendation to shipping companies sailing in the Arabian Sea and the Persian Gulf to take the necessary precautionary measures. "As a result, merchant ships and tankers from many countries around the world have been subjected to assessments of the situation between international security bodies, both intelligence and military, in which possible threats to vessels moving in these major trade routes have been discussed."
The statement added: "The Shipping and Ports Authority calls on shipping companies to take the necessary precautions, including increasing vigilance and changing routine behavior patterns, changing routes, in order to thwart possible threats to damage ships. For lawsuits in international courts. "
Various photos circulating of the damage to the HELIOS RAY corroborate reports from two US defense officials cited by AP of two holes in the port and starboard sides of the vessel (four total), just above the waterline.

The ship after the explosion
As you may recall, on February 28, the cargo ship "MV Helios Ray", which was owned by Israeli businessman Rami Unger, was hit by a missile launched according to estimates from an Iranian navy ship.
There were no casualties in the incident, after which the ship's captains were forced to retrace their steps.
As a result of the explosion, two holes about a meter and a half in diameter were opened in the side of the ship, but its engine was not damaged.
A U.S. security source told Reuters that the blast occurred above the waterline and not below it, and that the holes had opened in both sides of the ship.
